چکیده

Head and neck cancer is a complex pathology whose incidence has increased in recent years. The primary treatment surgery, which involves extensive mutilating interventions through the cervical region, leaving significant anatomofunctional sequelae. Since 2009, use of robotic surgery using Da Vinci® system been consensus for resecting oropharyngeal supraglottic tumors transoral surgery. Subsequently, its utility also observed patients with Sleep Apnea Syndrome (SAS). advantages this technique are based on improved early recovery patients. This article presents our experience management postoperative care surgical both oncological sleep apnea pathology.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS This study evaluates the outcomes of multilevel surgery for patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who underwent transoral robotic surgery (TORS) (i.e., posterior glossectomy and limited lateral pharyngectomy) with uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP). STUDY DESIGN Prospective, nonrandomized trial with historical controls. METHODS All patients underwent pre- and posto...

Contemporary Surgery for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome

Surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) has been available in some form for greater than three decades. Early management for airway obstruction during sleep relied on tracheotomy which although life saving was not well accepted by patients. In the early eighties two new forms of treatment for OSAS were developed. Surgically a technique described as a uvulopalatopharyngopla...
